Joyeux Noel, Merry Christmas, Happy Whatever You Celebrate

Usually by this time, the house has it's 'Meowy Christmas' wreath on the front door, and the tree has been decorated. The cards and holiday letter sent out to family and friends, and some furry Christmas presents lay under our tree with the other gaily wrapped things.

This year, it's been a little more difficult for me to get into a festive mood; part of it was lethargy from havin' an underactive thyroid. Part of it was feelin' blue due to financial concerns (somethin' that a lot of us can relate to this year!).

The tree is up and has lights on it and the furry Christmas presents have been under it from time to time. The deocrations will go up soon. The Christmas cards are gonna be a wee bit delayed to our friends and family that aren't on line. Yesterday, I finally felt a wee bit of Christmas Spirit, as I listened to my Michael Crawford Christmas CD while runnin' to the grocery and payin' bills.

Though one radio station in Indy has been playin' Christmas music since Thanksgivin', they rarely play the type of Christmas music I like best, which is the kind I grew up with. Since my car doesn't have a tape player, the tape I have of my Joe Longstreth Christmas album (harp carols) and fun Christmas songs like 'Snoopy's Christmas' are only available at home. Somehow, Sirs Elton and Paul's Christmas songs just don't do it for me.

Somehow or another, I got wrapped up in the idea that there had to be a wealth of 'stuff' under the tree for the DH and the cats, plus goin' off to family. Even though I start lookin' around June for 'stuff', the time always seems to get away from me.

Then I remember a commercial that played in the 1980s when the Hills Department Store used to operate (think along the lines of between Target and Kmart). It was a very simple commercial. I used to have a photocopy of the newspaper ad. Course, like a lot of things in moves, it got lost. I tried to find it on line, but wasn't successful. It was a simple reminder that before all the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, there was one man, traveling to Bethlehem with his wife to be, who was expecting a child that was not his. The commercial said, "Before all the presents, before the carols and the trees, before Santa and parties, there was a Child, born of humble means who brought the greatest Gift of all."

Sometimes the holiday season gets lost in the miasma of the politically correct. I often find myself feelin' like Charlie Brown, rebelling against contemporary behaviors. I don't say 'Happy Holidays' or 'Seasons Greetin's'. The closest I come is 'Happy Christmas'. That's what I celebrate. If I say that to you, it's not to shove my beliefs down your throat. It's because I wish all y'all a Joyeous Holiday, and sayin' "Happy Christmas" is the way I roll.

So whether you're Jewish, Druish, Wiccan, Protestant, Catholic, Amiable Atheist and/or Agnostic, Muslin, Hindu, or Buddist, Happy Christmas to ya.
