Mewsings from Lowecat (aka Indianacat)

My rants, ravings, and overall 'mewsings' on life, the universe, and everything.

So today was the day that I was supposed to pee in a cup for the drug screening. The internet directions were about 10 miles off the mark, as the lab is near Community South hospital. But, I finally find the place, sit and wait a half hour, only to find out that the place that directed me to go there forgot to fax the authorization!!!

This just means I have to call the first place, and then go back to the lab on Monday. At least now, I know where to go!

Incidentally, the new job I'm taking pays $431 a week, not a month, as previously stated!!!!!
Received the offer letter today; it was sent by overnight delivery. I feel so special and wanted! Have decided will mail the package from company #2 back with a letter of regret, timed to arrive the day of the start of their training, 23 August. Will also give them a courtesy call, but figure they can use their materials back.

It's been raining all day today, but that hasn't made things cooler. When one goes outside, it just feels muggy. Ick.

My cup runneth over

There are now two job offers on my plate; so I've gone from no prospects to two.

Today was the interview with the northside prospect.  Advertisements had said this would pay from $10-$20 an hour depending on experience.  However, the interviewer said that was not until one had been at the job for some time (at least three to six months).  One would make just over $40 a day in training, then for the first month earn a little over $6 an hour...hardly worth the trip to the next county above us.   But, they made a job offer, and their next training class starts 23 August.

The other offer came from the company that called yesterday with the job offer, starting at over $400 a week and starting on 16 August.  Though we don't yet know which insurance company they offer, DH and I have decided that the best bet seems to be the first offer made to me yesterday.

So, tomorrow I will go to pee in a cup for the drug screening, and look for their offer letter to arrive in the mail and sign off on it and send it back, then just sit back and relax a ltitle until the 16 of August.   At that time, I'll call Company #2 and say thanks, but can't accept after all; just started a job today...at least that will leave the doors open should, Heaven forbid, it's needed.

Have been calling the family to share the good news, they are happy about the opportunity.  Just wish that some of the places where one had applied would've been kind enough to say "thanks, but no thanks" but that seems to be the way of the business world these days.

Been an interesting and eventful day.

Went on another job interview; this time with the Neilsen Resarch people, the very people who do the ratings for tee vee.  It's part time, no benefits, and in Johnson County.   A little further than I really want to go for a part time job (34 hours a week).  But, an interesting position, and  a positive interview.

Before the interview, checked the cell vms, and had a call from the recuiter for the company, where I'd tested and interviwed yesterday.  After a couple of games of phone tag, the recruiter told me I have the job, starting 16 August.  It pays $431 a week, there are benefits, and it's not too far away; about 30 minutes by car.

THEN, I talked to the people at another company I'd tested at last week,  and now I have an interview for tomorrow morning at 11AM, and if they want to hire me, I'll know right away.

The cup, which was once empty, now runneth over!

So, we'll see what happens tomorrow.

This is shaping up to a busy week.  Made some calls, and have interviews tomorrow, wednesday, and thursday.  One phone interviewer for a major corporation told me instead of owning up to why I lost the job at SBC, to just say that I left for better things.  Interesting.
Still waiting to hear from the new company that is opening up in town.  They said if no word come Wednesday to call them.  You bet I will.

DH's store had a 20% off customer appreciation sale yesterday, scored a few necessities for us, but they didn't have the remanufactured (but warranteed) power steam cleaner for rugs.  Darn it!

Just another day in the neighborhood. Cool today, and cloudy.   Another day to save on the a/c costs.

A break from the heat came today in the form of temps in the 70s.  It won't last long, but it's nice to have the a/c off for a day.

Got a "nice" piece of mail today; seems the former employer isn't happy to have lost the first round in my unemployment compensation.   They filed an appeal.  The letter said we will be notified in writing of a hearing date.

I don't worry much, as it was the department head who decided against the return to work, ot me.  But it's a major PITA, beyond a doubt.

Finished dubbing off my VHS copies of 'The Prisoner",  and after dubbing to DVD a jumpy copy of the Scarecrow of Romney Marsh (Disney film), found out on-line that a DVD copy is indeed forthcoming.  *sigh*  Another wasted DVDR!

Next on the list of dubs from VHS to DVD are the Night Stalker collection and then the two part Scarlett miniseries.     Then I get into the big cache of VHS films to make my own collections.
